And tested! This was just a trial piece in aluminum, but the cutter worked surprisingly well.
When it came time to make the actual part in 4140, I was getting chipping of the cutting edges-
as it turned out, I was turning it too slow. It liked a substantial cut, and easily cut each
spline to full depth in a single pass, hand cranked and using dark cutting oil.
I've since used it on many other projects, and it's holding up very well.
