Only halfway, since the hole passes through the edge of the
drilled recess inside. The bit is light and flexy enough that if we
tried to drill straight through, the bit would almost certainly wander
and produce a badly-crooked hole, if not ruining the entire project.

So, we mirror the careful measurements from the opposite side, and
spot & drill again. This time, the drill sails through, perfectly aligned.
