Spacing the holes was easy- I simply used a set of Heiman transfer punches.
The original halfnut only used the upper 3/8" bolt, but had a slot for the lower 1/4-20.
I don't know for sure, but I suspect that the lower bolt was simply to attach it to the saddle while
not in use. I sized my flanges to take advantage of the extra bolt for that last little bit of strength.
Given normal rotation, cutting forces try to push the table this direction. Every little bit helps.
