Upon bench testing, with a small selection of loads, it was
determined that it was still hitting somewhat to the left and a tad
high.
Taking those measurements, I plugged that data into one of the online
calculators, and determined that we still needed to take about 0.035"
off the right side of the groove, and lower it another .018-.020". A
dial caliper and a small file took care of that handily, and the gun
then
gave us an adequate 2" or so 50-yd group, centered about 1-1/2"
high on point of aim. (On a 10-degree day, over open sights, and fired
by an older gent who was having some difficulty seeing the rather tiny sights.)
Quite the fun little project, and an amazingly clever action. I'd love to open it up and see how they did it.
It's also a bit humbling that I, an experienced machinist with a well-equipped shop, struggled to try and duplicate
work somebody did with hand files at a workbench lit by oil lamps and gas lanterns.
