My task, then, was to make a replacement sight blade: It's tiny, deceptively complicated, and, as I found out, extraordinarily
carefully hand-fitted. Of course, what took me a couple of hours to
slap together with modern tooling, probably took the original
craftsman- or his apprentice- two or even three full days to oh, so carefully fit using lampblack and small hand files.
