The top of the new shaft has a taper that is simply a press-fit
into the old shaft's holes in the upper seat mount/spring
assembly, then
the lower portion goes down through the 1" ID tapered roller, and the
stepped bottom end gets lateral
(anti-wobble) support from the needle
bearing in the bottom cup.
