My first thought, after that, was that the leak was coming from the ram- as noted, the ram
shaft and hammer slid back and forth a little too easily, although I found out later that's
fairly normal. However, the assembly was missing the setscrew holding the hammer on.
Whether it had fallen out and been lost, or the previous owner removed it I couldn't say.
But there was no damage to the valve, the hammer channel or the hammer itself indicating
it had fallen out during use, so I suspect the latter.
