Now, I recall specifically thinking the weld was a little "off" when I did it,
but I attributed it to an odd alloy for the cover plate- maybe easy-machining
leaded steel, or something similar. Nope. Turns out it was cast iron, so the
weld had no real penetration. Really, I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did.
