First things first: To be worth anything at all, that fixed jaw needed to
be strengthened up.
The casting wasn't quite thick enough to go all the way to some 3/8" bolts,
so I decided on
a pair of 5/16", and long enough that a portion of the unthreaded shank would
act as a second set of "keys" to take the thrust.
