Converting a Grizzly G8689 Mini Mill to 3-axis CNC, Part 15:
But, that was a bit blocky for my taste, so I used a set of dividers to scribe around the hole, and found some cast-off
round thing that looked like it was about the right diameter, and scribed a couple of matching curves from the bearing
boss to the underside of the table ways.
Lop the excess off with the bandsaw...
Play etch-a-sketch on the mill to shave away most of the remnants...
Flip the belt grinder over to horizontal again, and using the 2"
contact wheel, smooth those curves down 'til they were nice and pretty.
And there we have it. A nicely-fitted end cap and ballscrew-end-bearing support plate that actually looks like it belongs there.
Now, for a bit of bling. Found a perfect 5/8" chrome cap to cover the bearing bore.
Sure, not really a vital part, but helps spiff it up a bit.
